My friend James leaves work today to start drumming full time for FOE. The album ‘Bad Dream Hotline’ was released this morning and is getting favourable reviews all round (check NME and Drowned In Sound).
The video above features the track ‘Cold Hard Rock’ from the album and is well worth checking out.
Good luck James!

About Dam Mantle
Dam Mantle’s last.fm suggests that he “dove into” the project at the end of 2009 and it seems that he’s been steadily growing popularity. I’ve certainly been hearing more about his live shows and I understand that he will be playing a few dates with Gold Panda on his new tour. It’s clear is that he has found his niche in the experimental electronic folk/dubstep/hip-hop kind of area. It sounds vague, but if you give his two EPs a listen, you’ll get what I mean. He has a clean minimalism to his tracks (without them falling into the minimal end of the genre spectrum). If you like Gold Panda, or Prefuse 73, or even Amandou & Mariam then give him a go (though if you’ve heard those guys, you’re likely to have come across Dam Mantle already).
Album review
I’ve been obsessing about the opening track for the past couple of days (can’t get that lead melody out of my head. Such a good rif!). Luckily for you, the track (named Theatre) is free on Dam Mantle’s website.
According to Boomkat, the EP’s been out since last September, but looks like this one passed me by. The aforementioned opening track is the highlight. A seriously funky, dubstep influenced track with some real integrity. The lead synth has some lovely 80s style vibrato (the sound’s becoming more and more common in dubstep and garage and I’m loving it!) and sounds downright sexy.
In fact, the whole EP has a nicely selected range of synth sounds. There’s not an overwhelming barrage of noises like so much electronic music (my own included). Dam Mantle has selected fewer, well complimenting juicy sounds and made something I’m getting more hooked on with every listen.
The track Purple Arrow is my second favourite and continues the example of musical well selected sounds, with some vocals injected this time.
While the mix isn’t as good as I’ve heard in this kind of music, the musicality, imagination and sound from this EP easily make up for that.
Conclusion
A seriously great bit of work, and something I think I’m going to start appreciating more as time goes on. Get hold of it!

Anyone who’s browsed the few tracks I have on my SoundCloud will have heard this one, or an early version of it. I’ve completed the track now (save for mastering, which’ll happen together with my other tracks once everything’s completed).
I’ve been keeping most of my newer tracks to myself so I can release them together, but as I’ve already shown a preview of this I thought I may as upload the completed arrangement.
It’s a slightly Starfucker influenced track and pretty upbeat compared to some of my other stuff. Any feedback can go to my twitter, or pop it into the “Ask Me Anything” box on the left.
Hope you like it! I’ve made the track downloadable, but bear in mind it’s still not mastered.

Just seen this on the Warp website. Exciting! Can’t wait to see how they’ve progressed.
