A mix of releases old and new. The music I’m listening to most at the moment.
I’ve been playing this EP by Brokenchord a lot over the past few days. Lowe is an inspiring tune with beautiful detuning wonky synths which warp into a sparkling chilled guitar. Another favourite is ‘A Girl of Thirteen Summers’ which you can find on his Soundcloud or you can get as a single. Brokenchord is my favourite artist right now.
I’ve been following Seams for a while and it feels like this music is gaining more of a direction with every release. The Tourist side of this Tourist/Sleeper double EP has grown on me more over the past few weeks since it’s initial release about a year ago, but the transient clean punchy grooves of Sleeper show the exciting direction that Seams is heading. You can stream the whole lot over on The Hype Machine.
The Enjoyed remix of Punch makes great use of the catchy arp and weird stabs and is worth a listen (and it’s freeee!)
The Arctic single was released just under a year ago. I remember enjoying it on Pitchfork at the time but I’ve recently dropped the shiney pound on the download. Perfect for this late sunshine and just a lovely track all round. Pitched vocals used mellow vocals remind me of Sun Glitters but with a soft, driving kick. Super cheap too! Get it on his Bandcamp page.
Another oldie but still a goodie. Oriol’s ‘Night and Day’ was released on one of my favourite labels, Planet Mu back two years ago in July 2010. The track ‘Night and Day’ is what drew me to the record and is still my favourite track. Another dreamy summer/beats record with sharp, memorable melodies. You can grab it over on Planet Mu.
I following Ghosting Season when they were playing as Worriedaboutsatan. They’ve evolved into a cleaner, tighter produced ambient techno influenced duo worthy of their release on the Last Night On Earth label. I’ve been listening to Far End Of The Graveyard EP since it’s release and the first LP, The Very Last Of The Saints doesn’t dissapoint. Looking forward to seeing these guys play live at some point, their YouTube live clips look like they put on a great live show.
Might as well tag on a little plug here, but I’m aiming to release of my latest 7 track EP, ‘Melt’ at the end of August. If you like beats and sparkly synths then keep an eye on this blog or my Twitter :).
